Paint Effects Courses & Lectures
As a qualified teacher, Vanessa has run popular specialist paint effects courses since 1990 at venues in the West Country. These include the University of Bath, Dillington House, and Urchfont Manor College. Several courses were run at a C14 century house, where her stencilling and paint effects were used. The Moat House was the main feature in Period Living in October 1995 and Country Living in 1997. Stencilling courses run exclusively for Country Living readers, were subsequently held at this picturesque venue. She also runs private paint effects courses at home to suit the individual needs of the student.
Vanessa was one of the tutors involved with a Study Break in May 2004, for University of Bath, entitled "Behind the Doors - period interiors of the 18th and 19th century". This course included a visit to Tyntesfield, where she has been a volunteer guide since 2001. Vanessa is also involved with ongoing research into period interior decoration and the wallpaper inventory at the property.
Since 2009, Vanessa has taught full and part time interior design and paint effects courses at Marlborough College Summer School. These courses offer students an opportunity to work on their own interior design projects (or practice with imaginary ones!), gaining confidence and learning new skills that will help them make considered judgements for current or future projects in their own homes.Aspects covered will include tips on how to make good use of paint colours, wallpaper, lighting, sourcing furniture and accessories and choosing soft furnishings for a scheme. A course on paint effects for walls and furniture will also be included. For more information contact: www.mcsummerschool.org.uk
